Exact Coverage Analysis of Intelligent Reflecting Surfaces With Nakagami-<i>M</i>Channels

Intelligent Reflecting Surfaces (IRS) are a promising solution to enhance the coverage of future wireless networks by tuning low-cost passive reflecting elements (referred as metasurfaces), thereby constructing favorable propagation environment. Different from prior works, which assume Rayleigh fading channels and do not consider direct link between base station user, this article develops framework based on moment generation functions (MGF) characterize probability user in an IRS-aided systems with generic Nakagami-m presence links. In addition, we demonstrate that proposed is tractable for both finite asymptotically large values metasurfaces. Furthermore, derive channel hardening factor function shape number IRS elements. Finally, closed-form expression calculate maximum range given network parameters. Numerical results obtained Monte-Carlo simulations validate derived analytical results.
